Kokoro means heart, mind, soul, feeling, inner attitude. It symbolises the goal of bringing physical, emotional and mental forces into balance in order to respond appropriately to a martial action.
In martial arts, mind and body are not seen as separate, but as inseparable aspects of our experience. In addition to learning the techniques, the training also aims to develop greater sensitivity on both a physical and mental level. In particular, we aim to develop and deepen the following mental states: Focus, openness and calmness.
These are states that we regularly utilise in our daily lives. In training, we strive to develop them further by sharpening them under pressure, making them more readily available in life's stressful situations.
At Kokoro Dojo we train the Aikido of O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, as taught by the late Morihiro Saito Sensei. We are in regular exchange with Lewis Bernaldo de Quiros (7th Dan) and are members of the European association Traditional Aikido Europe.
